ELENI - LYDIA STAMELLOU

Young soprano Eleni-Lydia Stamellou and the pianist Marios Kazas, two promising awarded artists, travel us with well-known pieces from the movies and the musicals ("west side story", "my fair lady", "the phantom of the opera", "Evita", "the wizard of Oz", "the sound of music" etc.). Eleni-Lydia Stamellou, daughter of famous Greek singer Aliki Kayaloglou, studied in Freiburg, Vienna and Bologna. She gives recitals with great success mainly in Germany and Greece interpreting a wide repertoire which includes pieces from opera, oratorio, operette, lieder and musicals in nine languages.

Eleni-Lydia Stamellou, soprano

Eleni- Lydia Stamellou was born in Athens, Greece. At the age of five she started ballet lessons at the school of Yannis Metzis and piano lessons with Lenia Erodiadou and later with Aliki Vatikiotiat at the Athens Conservatory. At the age of seventeen she started singing lessons with the bass Fragiskos Voutsinos.

She continued her classical vocal studies in Germany with Prof. Markus Goritzki at the Music Academy of Freiburg, were she took her Diploma and during that period she also studied as an "Erasmus" exchange student one semester with Prof. Ralf Doering at the University of Music in Vienna. With the scholarship of the "Onassis Public Benefit Foundation" she continued her studies at the music conservatory of Bologna "G.B.Martini" in Italy with Stella Parenti and at the music conservatory of Napoli "San Pietro a Majella" in Italy with conductor Antonio Florio, where she studied Baroque Singing. Currently she studies with the soprano Maria Candida.

Already in the beginning of her studies she won the second prize (junior) at the international singing competition "Ferruccio Tagliavini" in Austria with Dame Joan Sutherland as president of the jury.

She has given solo performances with a wide repertoire, which includes pieces from Opera, Oratorio, Operette, Lieder and Musical, in theatres in Germany such as Stadthalle Bayreuth, Schloss Ebnet, Erzbischoefliches Palais Freiburg and in Greece such as Athens Concert Hall "Megaron Moussikis", The Ancient Roman Market, Goethe Institut Athen, Festival of Symi, Conservatory of Athens, Ionio Festival Paolo Carrer in Zakynthos and Pireus's Municipal Museum.

She has given solo performances with the Mondo Musical Group in the Musical review "The Show" at the Zelt Music Festival and at the Wallgrabentheater in Freiburg and she also sung the role of Christel in the Operette of Carl Zeller " Der Vogelhaendler" in Freiburg.

Last season she sang the Titlerole of the modern Opera "Snowhite" by Jens Joneleit and Sophie Kassies and the soprano role at the Baroque Opera "Sheep" at the Young Opera of Mannheim in Germany, with guest appearances in Ireland and Holland.

In October 2008 she sang at the concert of famous Greek singer Aliki Kayaloglou at the Herodus Atticus Ancient Theatre in Athens and in May - July 2009 she sang with Greek star tenor Mario Frangoulis at his concerts in Thessaloniki concert Hall "Megaron Moussikis", at the Palace Theatre in Athens and at the Music Festival Cesme In Izmir, Turkey.

This season she sings Snowhite at the National Opera of Oldenburg in Germany.

She speaks fluently Greek, English, German, Italian and French and sings apart from that in Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, Yiddisch and Sindarin.
