Stavros Lantsias

The journey continues on 7/8 with the quintet of the exceptional composer, arranger and pianist Stavros Lantsias, who serves a wide range of music, including influences from classical, soundtrack and jazz music. Through his personal albums and live performances, Stavros Lantsias composes a special melodic mixture and proposes a new audio path that manages to travel the listener in such a way as to lose none of the melodic landscapes he will encounter on this trip.

Stavros Lantsias, composer - arranger - pianist

Stavros Lantsias was born in Nicosia-Cyprus in 1966. He studied classical piano and music theory. Then, he continued his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston-USA, where he graduated in 1990. He there received the “Count Basie Jazz Masters Award for pianists 1989” and the “Quincy Jones Jazz Masters Award for arrangers 1990”. After Berklee he continued his jazz piano studies with jazz “guru” Charlie Banacos.

Stavros Lantsias is an eclectic musician in high demand as a pianist and arranger, always active performing with some of Greece’s most respected and acclaimed artists.

One of his most important projects is the “Human Touch”, a jazz group he has formed with long time collaborators David Lynch (sax) and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou (bass). In their two studio recordings, “Human Touch” (LYRA 1998) and "Movin’ " (LIBRA 2004), apart from composing and playing the piano Stavros expanded his playing with drums, percussion and acoustic guitar. Together they have played in several international jazz and ethnic festivals in Europe, Turkey and the Balkans.

Throughout the years Stavros has developed a unique multi-instrumental approach playing keyboards and drums simultaneously!

In 1999 Stavros Lantsias signed a recording contract with Warner Music Greece and since then he has released two personal albums “Return” (WEA 1999) and “The Journey of a Note” (WEA 2002). In these albums he demonstrates his composition and orchestration skills performing with both jazz and classical ensembles.

His latest recording release “Diary of Dreams” (December 2011) features the Athens Kamerata String Orchestra and world renowned musicians Peter Erskine on drums and Lars Danielsson on Bass. This compositional work was originally a commission by “Patra Cultural Capital of Europe 2006”.

The European Festivals Association (EFA) has been uniting distinguished music, dance, theatre and multidisciplinary arts festivals from Europe and beyond for more than 60 years. Thanks to EFA’s history and the continuous support of its members, EFA was chosen to implement the pilot project EFFE by the European Commission.

The first of EFFE’s initiatives is a quality label. This label is given to festivals with an artistic commitment, involvement in their local communities and a European and global outlook.

Gyzi Megaron Festival has been selected to receive the EFFE Label 2015-2016. It is now part of the EFFE Platform, initiated by the European Festivals Association, which consists of festivals that stand for artistic quality and have a significant impact on the local, national and international level. The Label recipients represent 31 European countries and offer a wide range of genres and activities to their audiences.

2016 has been defined as Greece’s Year in Russia and Russia’s Year in Greece, by an agreement formed as a joint statement, signed by the two countries in October 2013.

This year aims to build useful partnerships of mutual benefit with substantial development in both countries’ cultural, scientific, business and social relations, expanding Greek accessibility in Russian society, especially the province, opening up new areas of cultural, scientific, academic and business cooperation, and seeking new markets for tourism, Greek products and Greek innovative productivity.
